Data on real estate in Slovakia is stored in the register which is usually briefly called a Cadaster.

The Cadaster is under the jurisdiction of the Department on geodesy, cartography and cadaster of the Republic of Slovakia. In government the issues of Cadaster fall under responsibility of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The main task of the Department of Geodesy, cartography and cadaster - state control and professional supervision in relevant areas.

Legal and technical information is kept in the Cadaster. It is used for the purpose of protection of legitimate rights, for tax purposes, for the purpose of environmental protection, preservation of land resources etc.

The Cadaster, except for the central office, comprises 8 departments in regional centres and 72 administrations.

The cadastral department provides access to cadastral maps, descriptive information about real estate, land, registers of territories etc.

A record in the Cadaster consists of three parts.

Part A:

Contains general data on the right of ownership:

• area
• type of land
• land use code
• ratio of developed territory

Part B:

Contains data on the owner:

• surname and name
• date of birth
• information about ownership share
• information about a ground for acquisition

Part C:

Contains information about special rights and encumbrances:

• about easements
• about lien

Access to the electronic version of the Cadaster is public. However, the official extract in a paper medium may be obtained only after payment of a duty.

• documents
• data on a land plot
• address

Extracts from the land register of Slovakia may be used for:

• confirmation of title to real estate
• receipt of information about the real estate
• debt collection
• analysis of prices for real estate

* some data may be unavailable for certain items, or may be provided for a fee.

Receipt of short information in electronic form is normally carried out for one working day. Approximately 2 weeks are required to obtain documents with apostille.

Extracts from the land register are provided subject to the laws of Slovakia and to the Law on personal data protection.

Moreover, you can order certified translation of your documents into any foreign language.

The requests shall be processed within one business day. Courier delivery of the apostilled extract shall be paid additionally according to the courier tariff rates.

Apostilled extracts from Slovakia

Slovakia joined the Hague Convention on simplified legalization of documents on June 6, 2001. On February 18, 2002 the Convention came into force.
Thus, documents issued in Slovakia are subject to legalization based on the apostilling procedure, after certified translation such documents acquire full legal force on the territory of all other Hague Convention Member States.

As a rule of thumb, apostillation of extracts takes about two weeks.
