Validity of civil status documents in Kazakhstan
Civil status documents issued in Kazakhstan usually have an unlimited validity period. An exception to this rule are certificates of no criminal record, they are valid for no more than 3 months, after which they must be replaced with new ones containing up-to-date data. In addition, the receiving party may make requirements for the terms, so this must be clarified at the place where the documents are requested.

Birth certificate
A birth certificate is an official document provided by the Registrar or acting Registrar of the relevant Civil or Consular Register. It verifies details of an individual's birth, including the date, sex, and, if applicable, the time of birth and family relationships.
The birth certificate is issued by the justice authority of the Republic of Kazakhstan upon the birth of a child in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan or in the territory of the former Kazakh SSR.
Two types of this document are the primary birth certificate and the re-issued birth certificate. The primary certificate is issued by the justice authority for the first time immediately after the child birth and the re-issued certificate is for the case of loss or deterioration.
Under Kazakh law, reissuing or obtaining a duplicate of a Birth Certificate is only possible with a Power of Attorney issued directly by the individual whose birth record the certificate pertains to.
Only relatives with evidence documentation (copies of their birth certificate) can receive a birth record information which states the same information as in the birth certificate -please keep in mind that nevertheless, is not an identical document.

Marriage certificate
The marriage certificate is a document to officially prove that the marriage is legally recognized. It is required for procedures like changing a last name, applying for spousal benefits or visa or immigration application.
It is issued by the justice authority of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
There are two types of marriage certificates in Kazakhstan, a primary marriage certificate and a re-issued marriage certificate. The primary certificate is issued immediately after the registration of the marriage whereas the re-issued is for the case of loss or deterioration. There is no legal difference between both documents.
Both documents can be obtained either by the persons who have entered into the marriage or by representatives with a notarized power of attorney.

Divorce certificates
A divorce certificate serves the purpose to verify the legal dissolution of a marriage. It is required for procedures such as remarrying, updating marital status on legal records, immigration applications, and legal matters involving custody, support, or property division.

Death certificate
A death certificate serves the purpose to provide official confirmation of a person’s death. It is often needed for legal and financial matters such as settling estates, claiming life insurance, finalizing wills, notifying government agencies and closing bank accounts.

Police clearance certificate
A Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) in Kazakhstan, also known as a Certificate of no criminal record is a verification of an individual's current criminal record status. It is usually required for employment, volunteering, immigration or visa application and adoption processes. It can be obtained via an application process by submitting a request at your local police station in your municipality or region for the certificate which may involve providing fingerprints.
You can apply for a police clearance certificate in person during a visit to the Consulate or authorize Schmidt & Schmidt to do this with a power of attorney. Citizens or foreigners over 14 years of age can obtain a certificate either in person.

For International Use
If you need a PCC for use abroad, it must be obtained from the General Prosecutor's Office or its regional branches. This version is issued on official letterhead and often requires an apostille for international validation.
Educational Documents
Foreign educational documents only carry the same legal value as Kazakhstan documents if they are exempt from legalization or have undergone the necessary legalization process. Documents from countries with bilateral agreements with kazakhstan are fully exempt from legalization. Documents from countries that are part of the Hague Convention of 1961 undergo a simplified procedure called apostille. If neither countries are part of the convention or have bilateral agreements they undergo consular legalization
